Get To Know Me: Mikayla

At Distinction we obviously adore music. But you're probably wondering how we got here? What songs and artists have inspired our deep affair with music? Well in this series you get to learn the tunes that have made such an impact on us, that they are a defining feature of who we are. This is "Get To Know Me"

Aye, that me.

Sup guys, my name is Mikayla and as the newest member of Distinction, some of you might not know me as well as the other gorgeous babes in Distinction, so hopefully this will change that!

My music history is a long, complicated one that is kind of all over the board, so choosing 26 songs was actually really hard. I grew up a die-hard scene kid (*gag* I know), who was also really into competitive cheer. So most of my youth was spent listening to pop punk and shitty hardcore music, while also being surrounded by hip hop (specifically crunk) and pop. For the longest time I thought I was too cool for pop and hip hop until I got over myself and realized how much I actually enjoyed it, and how much it had actually influenced my musical tastes. Later in high school I would also begin to listen to indie bands that the boy I liked listened to because who didn't do that (seriously, tell me I'm not the only one). Thankfully listening to all that indie music would expand my musical taste even more eventually landing me a role in my college radio station. From there I would begin to listen to more electronic music (Bless the lovely KZUU DJs that introduced me to PC Music).

At this point in my life I've learned to stop giving a shit about whether or not people think I have good music taste. Music should be personal, and nostalgic, and I tried to choose the songs that do that for me. These aren't the songs I consider the most complex or the best of the best, but these are the songs that have influenced who I am as a person and take me back to moments (mainly in cars for some reason) with people I love.
