Best New Music 4/5
So much stuff came out this week, and unfortunately I had to filter through a LOT of stuff, but here is what I think were the best releases this week. Comment below to let me know if you agree!
New single from The Black Tones is groovy and blues heavy, with most of the track being instrumental to really build an impact on the message given within the few words said. The perfect anthem for these trying political times.
Naked Giants - Sluff (New West Records)
If you haven't heard of Naked Giants, then you must either be 1. New to Seattle or 2. Living under a rock. This week we were blessed with their new LP Sluff, filled to the brim with that Seattle pysch-garage rock sound we all know and love.
Various Artists - Switch Hits (Den Tapes)
Yesterday Den Tapes held their event benefitting Rain City Rock Camp for Girls at the Vera. Along with the show they released a compilation of their Northwest artists covering each others songs. All the proceeds from the album are going to Rain City, so go buy your copy now!
goawaysun - "VHS Tape" (Self Release)
I stumbled upon this release on Bandcamp and I love it. If you're a fan of IDM or electronic influenced indie music than listen to this song right now. It just makes you want to dance.
Lovely Colours - "Back For Blood"
Lovely Colors released the second single off of their upcoming EP last Friday, and I had the honor of premiering it for them <3 Keep an eye out for upcoming stuff from these guys, I know I expect big things.
Mike WiLL Made-it - Aries (Yugo) Pt. 2 (with Rae Sremmurd & Big Sean ft. Quavo & Pharell)
This song has so many people on it, but I feel like it's what gives it the very fresh and interesting sound that it has. It's still Rae Sremmurd, but the way they produced it, is just so hypnotizing.
Tyler, the Creator - "OKRA"
By now you've probably realized that I really like Tyler, and after Flower Boy, it's been really exciting to see him grow, while still remaining true to who he is as an artist. This week's one off single just proved that he's just continuing to grow, and it still fucking BANGS.
This week we got another single (the opening track) off of Beach House's upcoming album, 7, out May 11. As always, Beach House offers us an entrance into the dreamlike atmospheres that can only be portrayed through really well done shoegaze. Pretty sure at this point, they can do no wrong.
Melody's Echo Chamber - "Breathe In, Breathe Out" (Fat Possum Records)
Exciting album announcement from French musician, Melody's Echo Chamber. This first single from upcoming album, Bon Voyage, is pop-y and fun, and is making me dream of summer. I'm so excited for this album to release on June 15th.
Dumb - "Mint" (Mint Records)
Vancouver post punk band Dumb just signed to Mint Records and announced their upcoming album Seeing Green (out June 22nd aka my birthday), with the release of the albums first single "Mint." Super excited to see where this album is going.
